The paper of Diallo et al refers to a systematic review and meta-analysis including 34 trials and 227 220 subjects with type 2 diabetes with the aim to evaluate the impact of different hypoglycemic agents on MACE associated with HbA1c reduction and weight loss.

Authors found that the concomitant reduction of -1% HbA1c and body weight was associated with reduced 22% risk of mortality, whereas if associated with body gain with increased 8% risk.

The topic is of interest, the methodology used is adequate. However, the manuscript results quite chaotic and an extensive copy editing of English is absolutely needed.

The authors should address these minor concerns:

1) Abstract, pag 2 lines 6-9: please better explain the principal objective of the manuscript.

2) Pag 3, line 16: please add reference.

3) Page 4, line 9: an update search should be performed up to 2023.

4) Authors should also add a subanalysis of the results according to the sex of patients, and the presence of previous cardiovascular disease or not.

5) Discussion is quite chaotic and does not provide all the evidence on the topic. Authors should better explain the mechanism behind these effects and better compare with the existing literature (please see also: doi: 10.1186/s12933-022-01474-z.)

Authors addressed all the raised issues.
