Abdul Rehman Moosa , Muhammad Shafiq * , Habib Hamam Section Sustainable Engineering and Science Special Issue Machine Learning, Data Mining, and IoT Applications in Smart and Sustainable Networks Abstract In developing countries, technology usage lags in the livestock field, directly impacting meat and dairy products while requiring many human resources. This work proposed a novel smart dairy monitoring system by implementing intelligent wireless sensor nodes, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Node-MCU. The proposed system comprises three modules: an intelligent environmental parameter regularization system, cow collar (equipped with temperature sensor, GPS module to locate animal and stethoscope to update heart rate), and an automatic water filling unit for drinking water. Furthermore, a novel IoT-based front end has been developed to take data from prescribed modules and maintain a separate database for further analysis. All the presented WS nodes are intelligent to decide the case of any instability in environmental parameters. Moreover, the cow collar is designed to get precise values of temperature, heart rate, and accurate location of the animal. Additionally, auto-notification to the concerned is a value addition trait developed in cow collar design. The presented system is a plug-and-play to provide ease in implementation. Automation reduces human intervention and, hence, reduces labor costs while a farm has many animals. The intelligent remotely monitoring system also increases the production of dairy and meat products by improving animal health. This paper also presents a comprehensive comparative analysis of the proposed implementation with the existing systems that validate the novelty of this work. This implementation can be further stretched for other applications, i.e., smart monitoring of zoo animals and poultry.
