Content of review 1, reviewed on January 26, 2022
The current study is on a topic of relevance and is publishable in Molecules. However, the part on fractionation and GC-MS analysis are not clear. The authors should explain in sufficient details how the extract fractions were obtained. For the purpose of analysis, fractions would better be analyzed using soft ionization techniques as they are supposed to correspond to specific compounds and not GC-MS as used in the current study.
SPECIFIC COMMENTS
TITLE: I suggest revising it to ‘‘Evaluation of prokinetic and laxative effects of Chrozophora tinctoria whole plant extracts’’
Abstract
-Please capture the plant part and the extraction method used. Results on phytochemical analysis as well as a short recommendation for further studies should be provided.
Introduction
-The aim of the study needs to be succinctly stated.
-Consider citing more recent studies (2018 or later) in this area, which will, inevitably reveal the current state of knowledge.
Methods
-How were the fractions obtained? Please add more information in this regard.
Results & discussion
-The GC-MS results are not agreeable. The authors claimed they analyzed the fractions but have also presented results on the extracts.
-It is only agreeable if the individual compounds per fraction were identified and their chromatograms are presented. As seen in Figure 2, there was no fractionation of the extracts done.
-Structures of the compounds should be provided, and the discussion tailored to delineate if the observed bioactivities could be attributed to the identified compounds.
