I read this paper with great interest having just come from an area in Africa where the rains had failed and even cooperatively breeding species were failing to raise young. The extent to which cooperative breeding mitigates climate impacts therefore seemed like an open question to me. This manuscript confirmed that cooperative breeding has some advantages , but it does not guarantee that cooperative breeders will be able to handle extreme temperatures. As such, I found these results to be very interesting from both a conceptual and a conservation perspective.

As am empiricist, I was also impressed at the large sizes of the effects reported. I am also very impressed at the sophistication of the data analysis, especially the very useful analysis of time windows.

The writing was concise and clear (only one minor edit: line 333 drop the "ed" from "affected" and the supplementary material provided a wealth of analyses and results.

Therefore, I feel that the authors have made excellent use of their excellent dataset.
