Thank you for giving me the opportunity to review this paper. Let me begin by saying that I enjoyed reading your paper. The paper addresses a very interesting and relevant topic. It includes a study in an area where more research is needed.
However, I felt that your paper requires considerable development to really give a contribution.
I try to summarize my main concerns and to give some insights for a further development of the study.

Main issues:
Aim. The aim and consequently the related results do not allow to add anything in terms of theoretical contribution. The author/s states that “the paper focuses on retail models redistributing suboptimal food and their presence in Czechia and the aim to give an overview of the status and form of such models in the Czech retail market”. However, this objective is too descriptive rather than explanatory.
Methodology. The methodology description is too vague. In the methodology section the author/s states that “All of the selected stores were visited by the authors in January and February 2021, where 12 variables were observed, 7 of which are presented in the paper: assortment of food categories, non-food categories, discount rate, average spending per visit, store size, location within the country and district, number of employees”. But, how did you collect the data? Have you conducted interviews? How many? How did you analyse the data? Did you define and interview protocol? (For example, the number of employees cannot be figure out just through the observation)
Results. The analysis is very descriptive with a lot of figures but what is the point or purpose of these. They show the characteristic of the stores but so what from a scholarly point of view? The author/s should be more explanatory to add a contribution to the literature. What is new in your results? How do they challenge, support, refute, extend existing research?
The authors concluded that “these stores cannot be considered social supermarkets such as those in Austria or Croatia according to the definitions of Holweg et al. (2010a) and Klindzic et al. (2016). Nevertheless, these stores can rather be considered the so-called super discount stores”
I think this is not relevant in terms of contribution and advancement in the literature but is relevant in term of case selection. You should select the case as they are super discount stores and this can add value to your results.

Suggestions for further development
Going forward I suggest to reframe the theory around the concept of food recovery and describe the different business models. SSM are well described but other typologies (such as food banks, Super discount…) are just mentioned.
The research question should be reformulated, and the author/s should use Czechia retailers’ case study to get insights that can be generalized
I would recommend one way to develop novel contributions (but not the only way) and based on your results, you could further explore ideas around the comparison of the case with other retail models (e.g food banks but also food sharing platforms)
In particular the role of food banks has been widely discussed by academics, with several different point of views, which led to one main dispute: despite the noble purpose of these organizations, some studious argued about the inability to solve or even reduce the issue of poverty and they do not consider the dignity of the beneficiaries.
What about alternative models? Such as super discount stores? It is very interesting to note that Czechia retailers’ are FOR profit companies. This is one element of difference with other models. Is it a plus? Why?
This may provide a valuable hook for the paper as limited work studies on for profit models has been written on the topic
Overall, I wish you all the very best in the papers continued development.
