The abstract should provide a clearer purpose by mentioning the specific term ‘academic writing skills’ instead of ‘performance in writing skills’. The treatment used in the study should be clearly stated instead of referring to them as “effective methods and techniques.” Since the research employed both students and teachers, the findings from the students should be included as well. The title was ambiguous since it did not mention specific teaching methods or techniques that were implemented in the study. Relevant references related to the teaching methods and techniques should be added, as well as the recent publication. More articles discussing the empirical study of teaching methods in academic writing will bring more relevant discussion. Most of the references should be referenced correctly according to the journal’s style. The abstract should include keywords such as teaching methods and writing skills to provide the specific scope of the study.
The introduction did not provide sufficient fundamental knowledge related to the topic. Instead of providing direct quotations, the author should summarize previous studies to establish reasoning on why this particular research is needed. The gap and the novelty of the study should be highlighted as well. The research questions were not clearly outlined as they were different from the objectives of the study. The objectives of the study mention the techniques of organizing, outlining, etc. However, the research questions only mention the integration of reading and writing skills. The research questions should correlate and be based on the objectives of the study.
The method should provide sufficient information on both students’ and teachers’ demographics. The author also should explain and elaborate on the process of selecting the participants. The methods should explain the variables clearly and how they are analyzed to answer the research questions. For instance, the author should explain what is the function of the pre-test and post-test, and how the gathered data are processed. The study should employ a more valid and reliable method to answer the research questions. Since the aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of methods and techniques, the author should measure the T-test result from the pre-test and post-test. The questionnaire should be used to strengthened the statistical data analysis to reflect the effectiveness of the methods and techniques used in teaching academic writing. To ensure validity, one paper should be graded by two blind evaluators and a clear writing rubric should be presented. The process of ensuring the questionnaire’s validity should be explained as well. Although the study provides clear stages of the research, the stages should be presented in chronological order involving the time spent and the duration of each stage. The information on how long the whole study was conducted should be described as well. Detailed information on the process of data analysis should also be presented.
In the result section, the author should provide the data from the pre-test and post-test, as well as their analysis result. The tables should provide clear information on whether the results were from the teachers or the students. The units and the number from the questionnaire were presented well. However, the author should draw a conclusion and provide an explanation of the data instead of repeating the data from the tables. The results should add the statistical results of pre-test and post-test and how it correlates to the presented questionnaire. The teachers’ feedback from the evaluation process should be included in the results section to strengthen the finding as well.
In the discussion section, the author should discuss the analyzed data from multiple angles and interpreted them by referring to the previous studies. The results should be elaborated to answer the research questions. The conclusion should clearly state the answers to each of the research questions with the support of data analysis and references. The author should also include the limitation of the study by explaining several variables that should be further investigated.
Overall, the study should be designed appropriately to answer the aim of the study by employing the statistical analysis of the T-test to find out the effectiveness of the methods. The study provides several alternatives methods to enhance students’ skills in academic writing. However, the study should specify the methods and techniques used instead of randomly implement them. The comparison of the different methods and techniques will give more insights on how to improve students’ writing skills. The article should be consistent in explaining the objectives, the research questions, the methods, and the conclusions.
On the other hand, the article delivers an interesting attempt to improve students’ skills composing academic texts by introducing several writing methods and techniques.
Major points in the article which need clarification, refinement, reanalysis, rewrites, and/or additional information and suggestions for what could be done to improve the article.

- The gap and the novelty of the study should be clearly stated.
- The articles should avoid using direct quotations and deliver ‘summary and citation’ to explain the previous studies and theories.
- The methodology section should cover the detailed procedure of research and provide relevant statistical numbers and interpretation.
- The results should be supported with statements without repeating the information from the table.
- The discussion should thoroughly interpret the data analysis, not repeating the analysis of the results.
- The conclusion should address the research question accurately.
Minor points like figures/tables not being mentioned in the text, a missing reference, typos, and other inconsistencies.
- Rounds of proofreading should be conducted to fix grammatical mistakes, misspelling, typos, and mechanics.
- The articles should add more relevant and recent references.
