The manuscript provide an exhaustive study on the antibacterial and antimycotic effects of a number of different extracts from Rhoeo discolor. This is one of the first study that analyze the effects of the extract from this plant. The methodology and the discussion of the results are well organized. Only some corrections are necessary, and an in-deep checking of English and of the punctuation marks is also required. ABSTRACT Page 2, lines 2-4: The authors have to check the punctuation marks. KEYWORDS The keywords limit is ten. The authors should eliminate at least 2 keywords. INTRODUCTION Page 2, lines 29-32: The authors have to check the English. Page 3, line 3: The authors should correct the punctuation (there are two “:” in the same sentence). RESULTS Page 10, lines 2-4: the sentence here reported is not clear: the authors have to clarify the sentence and correct the English and typo mistakes. Page 11, Figure 6: Arrows indicating peaks are sometimes shifted in respect to the peak the have to indicate. Please set each arrows over the corresponding peak. Page 11, line 12: the authors have to correct vanillin into vanillic. Page 11, line 13: the authors indicate anthocyanin as the peak number 5; the term anthocyanin is too generic, please specify what kind of anthocyanin correspond to the peak number 5. DISCUSSION Page 12, line 11: the authors have to substitute “was” with “were”. Page 12, line 35: the authors have to correct “microorganismos” into “microorganisms”. EXPERIMENTAL SECTION Pages 13-14, lines 35-10: the authors have to indicate if they use a new methodology for organic solvent extract preparation, or if they use an existing methodology. In this case they have to indicate a reference for the existing methodology. If it is a new methodology, the have to indicate if they are sure that 5 days is a sufficient incubation time for extracting all the compounds of interest. Pages 14-15, lines 37-1: the authors have to explain why they have used different incubation times for different microorganisms. Page 15, lines 9-10: the sentence is not clear; the authors have to better explain that the quantification of phenolics has been made through a comparison with a gallic acid standard curve; furthermore, the authors have to better indicate the unit of measurement (µg of gallic acid? Referred to mg of fresh weight or dry weight?). Page 15, lines 12-20: the authors have to indicate were they get the standard substances used for HPLC analysis. SUPPLEMENTARY DATA Figure S1: For each microorganism, the authors attach two pictures of discs. According to the caption near each disc, there are two different extracts inside each disc, but is not clear which part of the disc contain one or another extract. The authors have to add, in the caption near each disc, what extract is in the left part of the disc and what extract is in the right part of the disc. Table S1: in the table caption, the authors should remember to the reader that differences are significant with p < 0.05.
