Comments on abstract, title, references
The study has a clearly stated claim with a relevant and informative title. In the Abstract, the used methodology is thoroughly explained while the results are briefly mentioned. The study has used the correct format for the references, which are all relevant to the discussed topic. However, the references are all recent except for three, yet the references are vital to the scope of research.
Comments on introduction/background
Although the study began by mentioning a few previous studies, they all advocated the author's beliefs while the other point of view, which supports the use of L1 in L2 classes, was fully neglected. Nevertheless, the research question is clearly outlined and justified.
Comments on methodology
The process of selecting the subject is clear. Also, the sample of participants is large but restricted to one gender (males) and university (Altaif University). Thus, that might negatively affect the reliability of the results. Moreover, the collection of data relies on the participants’ (students) subjective opinion and the actual impact of the use of L1 is not measured.
Comments on data and results
With tables, the presentation of the results is comprehending and easy to navigate through. Each table is preceded with an explanation of the collected data.
Comments on discussion and conclusions
In the discussion, the study presented the results from several angles without being overinterpreted. Additionally, the conclusion includes the answers for the aim of the study, and alongside the results, the conclusion is also supported by variable references. However, the research does not include the limitations which might lead to future studies and investigations.
