The importance of teacher professional development for improving the pedagogical competences of engineering teachers is being stressed in higher education institutions. In the context of the ongoing EXTEND project for the development of centers for teacher professional development in the Russian Federation and Tajikistan, was developed an analysis of current organizational approaches for improving engineering education and teacher professional development in the European Union. A set of 19 organizational approaches for teacher competence enhancement were identified and analyzed. The analysis resulted in two main recommendations to be developed in schools of engineering and that are being developed in the EXTEND project.
