The paper proposes an ADMM-based approach to solve mixed-integer nonlinear volt/var optimization problems in distribution systems. Generally, the paper may be interesting for the journal, the effectiveness should be further validated. The detailed comments are as follows.
- The Introduction should be rewritten to emphasize the importance of voltage regulation in distribution systems. Currently, the paper introduced the complexity of the mathematic problem rather than engineering issue.
- From the title to the context, it is emphasized the problem to be solved is the volt/var optimization. But for the objective function in Eq. (11), only network loss is considered. Although it may be helpful for improving the voltage profile, it can't be recognized as voltage control.
- Another concern is from the using of ADMM. The paper seems to use ADMM to improve the convergence of MINLP. For my experience, the using of ADMM will lower the calculation efficiency and convergence. ADMM is usually used in distributed optimization, does the paper need any network partition?
- There are some methods proposed for the solving of MINLP, e.g. mixed integer second-order cone programming (MISOCP) is used to solve the same problem in the following paper. I would like to see a comparison with the MISOCP model.
Coordinated Control Method of Voltage and Reactive Power for Active Distribution Networks Based on Soft Open Point, IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON SUSTAINABLE ENERGY, VOL. 8, NO. 4, 2017.
- The cited references in the paper should be revised according to the journal style. In distribution system, we usually use "node" instead of "bus". The sources of 85-node and 141-node cases should be given.
