This manuscript describes an off-medication follow up of the STEP 1 phase 3 trial of semaglutide.
The rebound in weight, and the loss of benefit is as expected once active treatment is discontinued.
One finding I found somewhat surprising was that there appeared to be no difference between the entire cohort and the cohort once the subjects who received some type of pharmacotherapy were removed(Fig 1 panels A and C) ?
It may be of interest to report the weight maintenance in the 21 subjects in the semaglutide arm and 6 subjects in the placebo arm who received some type of pharmacotherapy but no behavioral intervention.
The STEP 4 trial has clearly shown that continued pharmacotherapy with behavioral intervention continues to be effective.
