The title is claer and informative of the topic discuused in the paper. However, more than 50 % of the referances used are old.Yet the author used sufficient amount of referance and appropriate studies have been included.

On Setting research Question

The authror didnt set the reasearch questions in clear manner but it has shade light on politicization of ethnicity and ethnic party systems in Ghana

On Methodology:

Both the term, variable and method are completely missing from the study.Yet,by inferance the author made presentation of the issues discussed systematically and coherently. For instance the topics used in introduction section page two clearly outlined the flow of the presentetion and page2 to 3 made the literarture review. However, the author escaped the use of the sub titles in the body of the paper leaving the task of recognizing each section by the readers. This may burden the readrs and potentially distracts them rom focusing to understand key messages.Accordingly if one evaluates using these checklists as yardistic, then the The presentetion made is superb. But there are soame problems in organizing the presentetion. For instance the author makes sudden outlines in the middle of discussion see p4 p3 which reads The trajectory of institutional experimentation in Nigeria – the most successful federation in Africa – and Ghana – "the first unitary-state experiment in Africa, is discussed next".This should have been better included at the end pf the introduction part than here.

The article misses some important structural parts including clearly outlining the border between then discission part with the finding or presentetion as well as mixing of conclusions with suggestions.

yet the limitation of the article can be corrected.Othewise the ideas riased and discussed create opportunities for replication and future research endevours.

The research followed its own style and delivered the meassage to the potential readers in one of the best manners. However, the major flaws of this article is its lack of following certain formal structure of article organizing. It failed to organize the presentetion in to introduction, methodology, finding, discussion, conclusion and suggestion.

As to the knowledge it would have been better to arrange the article in the way one can clearly and simply differentiate between findings from discussions and conclusion.

Own word summery of the article

Overall, the author tried to showcase that ethnicity, and ethnic clevages are important aspects of the polical life in Ghana including in the fourth republic era. Ethnicity has persisted in Africa and continues to influence political choices p 3l10-11 asserts this well that Party politics and voters behavious in Ghana is only possible by grasping the division of Ghana in to three core political clustered regioions namely :the Volta ,asante and Mole-Dagbanli voting regions.
However,Ghana, under the fourth republic stands peculiar in its ability to mitigate the anti democratic and destabilizing effect of the politicization of ethnicity through a constitutional design.

This design of the Articles 55, 248 and 276 discouraged formation of ethnic partiies but provided a way out for managing political peculiarieties and conflicting interests through the tools of chiftancy based local administration and decentralized administration empowermnet.Yet,the author also cautioned that despite this Institutional designs, ethnicity affects some regions and elections and electoral outcomes predictability in such areas as Asante and Ewe.In these regions, there has been tensions between national and ethnic identity. Yet the result showes that ethnicty do affect voters behaviours and who is going to be president but Ghana differs from other experiances in its voters tendency to vote non ethnicc representative and the tendancy to avaoid coercison and political conflict to manifest. The author also made clear the sucessful experiance of the nations achievement in democratization process.

Overall Strength of the article

The overall strength of the article emanates from its ability in presenting the peculiar voters behavior in Ghna.It also clearly communicated that despite the effect of ethnic clevages in Ghana politics, the republic was able to mitigate such challenges through constitutional design. This, peculiar experiance of managing the tradeoffs between ethnic diversity with democratization will definitely have an impact in the field of etnicity and party politics study focusing on Africa. And the lessons could be replicated if documented and adopted well to fit other African states facing problem.

Major points in the article which needs change.

despite the strengths of the study, the following are key areas that need consideration.

The section that discussed Ghanas peculiar voters behaviour in selection of the presidential candiates is not discussed in detail. So it is recommended that the author to look this section and add more reasons why the voters conform with the constitutions article 55 in excersising their vote casting.Adding more evidence based notes on why the Ghanian voters not twisted to their ethnic friends alone will adda clarity.

Additional notes on electoral systems used in Ghanna would be an asset . The lack of definition of variables posed challenge on readers mind. For example,in p3 L14 stated that etnicity equals identity .The question that begs here is that does Identity equals authors statement in p2 Par 3 " Prior to European encounters, people in Africa ‘belonged simultaneously to a multiplicity of social networks: nuclear and extended families, lineages’, gender networks, generational transition groups, religious groups of practice, chieftaincy systems and communities" does this contradict with P11 last paragraph L1 statement " The widespread extended family system among Akans and Ewes create strong ethnic affinity " That how could nuclear and extended families be an aspect of social networks and ethnicity at the same time? are all these variables denote and cannote the same meaning? are extended families social network? are linigae groups not geneologicaal ties? do pri mordialist and social constractionist view these terms with the same perspective? this makes additional section or paragraph of definition and conceptualization of the terms used in the article imperative. In the absense of this a lot of question will arise in the minds of the readers.

It is also importand to bear in mind that the terms of Etnicity and Nation are used interchangeably when they are refering to a state which is a truely nation stae composed of dominat ethnic group on whose image the stae is formed. Otherwise in many of multi ethnic states, and socities what Nation, national Nationalist, ethnic refers to remains a matter of dis-agreement.Hence, this key words should be adressed well,if possible given operational defination at some part of the aticle. Finally using latest articles written on definition of ethnicity and these key terms would help for improvement.
