Dear authors,
Your manuscript, "A Scenario-drafting Study To Explore Potential Future Implementation Pathways Of CtDNA Testing In Oncology", approaches the effect of applying ctDNA-based strategies in the clinical routine. You performed a literature review to select relevant topics and then elaborated a questionnaire to be tested on thirty experienced researchers in this field. Then, answers from these researchers have been descriptively analyzed to focus new horizons in ctDNA research. Though the potential contribution of this study to their field, I would like to comment on some concerns.
Major comments
Please describe reasons to exclude publications in Supp Figure 1. You retrieved 57 publications but then used only 29. What did you look for in the abstract or title?
Please describe in detail the a priori inclusion criterion for " experts working in the field of ctDNA testing" in the methods section. Did you consider the number of years working in the field? some degree? or representative institutions?
Please add the proper version of Microsoft Excel that was used. In addition to the RStudio version, it is essential to describe the use of the R software and include the version of this software.
Figure 2 was produced based on the responses of experts working with ctDNA. Therefore, these results reflect their awareness about the current stages of ctDNA application in The Netherlands instead of the current state of the art (or evidence level). Please adjust all mentions and interpretations of this figure. In addition, the title must reflect the locality of these responses to avoid misinterpretations.
Figures 3 and 4 are very informative. However, I suggest adding two or three additional ticks to the quantitative Y axis. It will help distinguish experts' preferences.
Minor comments
Potential typo on line 96 "bases"->"basis"
In Figure 2, use the legend to describe all abbreviations. For example, NSCLC or CRC.
