The authors present interesting data about the most common canine breeds associated with gastric carcinoma, metaplasia and dysplasia diagnosed by histopathology of endoscopic biopsy samples. Based on their results, the authors showed that there is very low incidence of GC in dogs, and the Belgian Tervuren dogs, appear as predisposed. Furthermore, the histopathologic descriptions of mucosal changes such as metaplasia and dysplasia are also rare, but are more frequent in the Belgian Tervuren. The manuscript is well written, has important message for pathologists and clinicians, and the authors consider that future research should investigate the possible role of metaplasia and dysplasia in the development of GC in dogs, especially those of predisposed breeds. The keywords and abstract effectively communicate the nature of the present manuscript. Appropriate references are included within the manuscript.

The introduction covers almost important information about this topic. This part is a well-conducted introduction introducing the reader in the research field, where all background essential data were included.

Case (breed) informations, sample collection, grading system and data analysis are well detailed. The authors should mention if the study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the University (No. data etc.). Some techniques (e.g. endoscopy) should be described in details, including the apparatuses (e.g. endoscope type, model etc.), producers (to put them in brackets).

The results are well presented and clear, with good quality histology and endoscopic images, suggestive tables, and sound statistic part.

Discussion and conclusions: In the section of "discussion" the authors critically analyzed, compared and interpreted their findings in the context of published literature.

Conclusions are fine and the References in the great majority are of actuality and linked to the topic tackled.
