Abstract, title and references ● Is the aim clear? ● Is it clear what the study found and how they did it? ● Is the title informative and relevant? ● Are the references: ● Relevant? ● Recent? ● Referenced correctly? ● Are appropriate key studies included?

Abstract: 1. The aim or purpose of the research is clear and crisp. 2. Clearly mentioned methodology - secondary analysis of GHB-Student health survey, 2016. 3. The results gives a clear outline of what was expected from the study. 4.Conclusions: direct and concise.

Title: reads clearly and also focused.

References: looks relevant, more recent except for reference no. 6(1995), 25(2001) and 39(2004). These 3 references could be revisited by authors and replace with more recent ones.

Introduction/background ● Is it clear what is already known about this topic? ● Is the research question clearly outlined? ● Is the research question justified given what is already known about the topic?

Background : The authors starts confidently by describing the impact of suicide on DALY and smoothly goes to state about how suicide has declined in other regions except in Asia. Then moves on the explore on the factors related to suicide and adolescents related challenges.

Importance : Authors then moves on the state why it is important topic for Bhutan and adolescents in Bhutan with facts and policy supports.

3.Goals : The objective is stated with much clarity.

In general introduction is clear and well written however I would recommend the authors to reduce the text in paragraphs 3, 4 and 6. There is scope to reduce unwanted text.

Methods ● Is the process of subject selection clear? ● Are the variables defined and measured appropriately? ● Are the study methods valid and reliable? ● Is there enough detail in order to replicate the study?

The sample selection : The sample selection and sampling method was clearly stated with appropriate statistical justifications including the data source, which is Global school based-Student health survey 2016. A standardized questionnaire(WHO tool), is a strong point for the study.

There is a clear summary of proposed strategy for data collection, management with description of study population. The data analysis plan is a good one.

However, it would enrich the manuscript if there is slightly more description on study tool.

Results ● Is the data presented in an appropriate way? ● Tables and figures relevant and clearly presented? ● Appropriate units, rounding, and number of decimals? ● Titles, columns, and rows labelled correctly and clearly? ● Categories grouped appropriately? ● Does the text in the results add to the data or is it repetitive? ● Are you clear about what is a statistically significant result? ● Are you clear about what is a practically meaningful result?

Data presentation : Is divided into 3 sections of socio-demographic, prevalence and risk factors. They are all appropriately described.

There are not repetition in text and tables except the important ones, it clearly shows authors are not interpreting the findings at this stage.

feedback : 1. In general, tables are suppose to remain within the results section, here it is driving into discussion section (table 02). I would recommend again to revisit the table 02. 2. All tables is divided into blocks, I recommend to try and fit in within 1 page to ensure better understanding by readers.

Discussion and Conclusions ● Are the results discussed from multiple angles and placed into context without being overinterpreted? ● Do the conclusions answer the aims of the study? ● Are the conclusions supported by references or results? ● Are the limitations of the study fatal or are they opportunities to inform future research?

Discussion starts key findings in first paragraph and reasons why?. The most important message of the paper. I like this strategy.

Explain importance : Next compares and contrasts the findings with other relevant studies in the second paragraph and continues for next 2-3 paragraphs.

Limitations : the authors honestly states the strengths and limitation in detail and there are no damaging limitation which could compromise the study in terms of methodology, statistical or ethics.

Policy recommendations : Structured school based intervention, strategy to reduce loneliness and parental engagement. This is a great move.

Take-home message : succinct one. Thumbs up.
