OVERALL STATEMENT AND STRENGTH:

The authors in this study aim to find out “the influence of incorporating English-culture learning into English-language learning by observing the perspectives of Saudi EFL learners” (Aldawood & Almeshari, 2019). The introduction and the literature review section are well organized and the four main research questions are clearly stated. The authors use questionnaire to collect data and one of the findings reveal that in order to succeed when learning the former language, it’s crucial to learn the culture (Aldawood & Almeshari, 2019). The study provides a clear explanation of the methodology section. The participants and instruments used in the study are clear, as well as validity and reliability checks are ensured and stated by the authors. The representation of the data in tables is informative and categorized correctly according to each research question. The conclusion answers the aim of the study and gives suggestion for future work and research recommendations.

Overall, this study is well organized and the aim is clear. The findings are related to the research questions. However, I have a few comments mentioned below.

MAJOR POINTS:

  1. The four main research questions are not mentioned in the abstract. It directly shifts from methodology to results of the study. Therefore, the abstract needs to be revised.

  2. The limitations such as only girls are included in the study, is not mentioned anywhere in the paper.

  3. I believe the ‘Results and Discussion’ section does not give enough explanation and interpretation of the findings; therefore, it needs to be revised.

  4. References need to be updated. Out of 27, only 4 of the references were published in the last 5 years of the publication of this article.

  5. Although the literature review cites many authors that support the research questions here, there aren’t enough studies mentioned in this section that can be related and compared with the findings in this study. Therefore, I think there should be a clear structure and focus in this area.

MINOR POINTS:

  1. Spelling mistakes • Example: p. 332 2.Literture Review

  2. There are citation mistakes such as use of comma, full stop, and spacing inconsistencies in references. • In the citation, authors use ex. 7. (6). for volume and issue numbers, however, in apa citation style this should be ex. 7(6), without spacing and full stop, and volume number should be italicized. • No full stop after the issue number. It should be comma. • There should be comma after the journal title.

  3. In page 336, under table 4, there is a mistake when the authors explain the results: The first sentence under the table mentions 24.3 % of the participants agree and 64.3% strongly agree whereas according to the table the percentages are vice versa.

Overall, the paper needs to be reviewed by the authors and these mistakes should be corrected.
