This is an important contribution to fire ecology, because indeed, trait-based analyses at the community level can provide invaluable information about the species that are favored or critically threatened after some major disturbance, such as fire. I fully agree with the methodology, and I particularly liked the use of GAMLSS. In general, I find this a well-written manuscript, and I would like to see it published.

Detailed comments
In the Abstract, I would suggest (a) revealing the functional traits included, and (b) presenting the results in a more straightforward way, instead of indirectly describing them like “vegetative height followed the pattern of aridity distribution”; what was the actual trend found?
L32: Given that you are referring to predictions, perhaps more recent works can be cited here.
L33-34: Perhaps explain a bit more what fire-prone vegetation in the Mediterranean ecosystems is; it would be useful for readers that are not familiar with the region.
L37: or with resilience as well?
L52-55: Or because the fire intervals studied fall within the intrinsic fire frequencies of the region, so no serious disruptions could be evident, see Kantsa et al. (2023).
L63-68: This needs to be written more clearly. Also, define heterogeneity (I guess of landscape? But it yes, this leads to circular reasoning at the end of the sentence) and selectivity.
L73: Perhaps “fire-related functional traits”?
L95-97: I agree, and I think that this should have been the main or even the sole focus in the text, right from the beginning, as also indicated in the title. Floristic (in contrast to vegetation) censuses are not generally made with an ecological perspective. Also, some more specific hypotheses could be formulated, regarding the response of specific functional traits.
L135-137: This could be moved to the functional traits subsection.
Table 2: Is the effect size standardized? Also, please clarify in the legend what sigma is.
L261: Verbs like “structure” must be avoided, because here statistical correlations are tested. I would write instead “fire appears to predict functional traits etc”.
L262: “depending on”.
Are there any caveats that must be discussed regarding other additional (or possibly synergistic) factors that might have an impact on species’ composition in the communities (grid cells) included here? For example, other environmental stressors that might predict the distribution of some functional traits, such as regular livestock grazing? Also, in each grid cell included in this analysis, do you know the level of environmental variation, for example, are there >1 habitat/substrate types included, or is there any significant elevational gradient?
The Conclusions section is oddly short. I suggest expanding to summarize the main findings and their conservational value, or include future directions.
