This is an interesting paper about an important subject and the author makes important suggestions about how to improve the quality of research findings. The modifications on the reward system of science are necessary especially the removal of the importance of obtaining titles in good universities or the need to give value to peer-review activities. Still the powerful statement that “an estimated 85% of research resources are wasted” is weakly backed. An to use a self-citation as evidence that “grant reviewers typically have only modest CVs and most of the top influential scientist don´t review grant applications” does not look much better. As best-case scenario, they could only point out that this happens in the field of medicine.
