The aim of this paper is clear, it discusses investigating Telehealth in those patients who have long-term health conditions, however it is from the front-line healthcare workers perspective. It is clear how the study was conducted and explains the design and method used. The title of this paper is very clear and concise regarding the topic of this study. The study conducted by this researcher was appropriate as well as the references used.
The definition of Telehealth is clearly stated in the introduction, it discusses what they are attempting to find out by doing the study, which is possible new roles needed for front line workers if telemedicine is implemented. I do not feel that the actual research question is clearly outlined in the introduction. I am not sure what the actual research question is after reading the introduction, therefore I can not say that the research question is justified.
The process of subject selection is clear, it states that they interviewed 32 front-line healthcare professionals. It also explained the timeframe that those were picked during. The variables were defined and measured appropriately. The study method was valid and reliable, they were able to interview a variety to nurses as well as physicians. I do feel that there is enough detail in order to replicate the study.
As far as the results for this study, this was a qualitative study therefore it did not have the exact number of participants that felt that telehealth was beneficial. It did summarize their results to say that there were mixed reviews, the nursing staff seemed to be receptive of using telehealth however the physicians felt that it was more work for this. Due to this being qualitative and only looking for opinions the results were clear and appropriate
The study does offer results using the information gained from the interviews. I never saw a clear research question to know whether or not the research question was actually answered during this study. The aim was to get the thoughts of telehealth implementation from front line workers, and the conclusion was that there needed to be more information gathered as far as job responsibilities for front line workers, therefore it seem that those nurses and physicians weren't clear what their job roles would be if they were not seeing these patients face to face.
In a study such as this I think that a quantitative approach would be helpful to understand how many nurses and or physicians felt that implementation of telehealth would be beneficial. I also think that the research question needs to be better defined.
