The authors study the effect of combined norfloxacin with itopride vs. norfloxacin alone in secondary prophylaxis of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis. They found that combination therapy is superior to norfloxacin monotherapy in 2ry prophylaxis and also on survival. The study was a randomized trial, and it is a strong point. But some minor issues need to be clarified. * The abstract - The aim of the study is clear. but, the methodology not specified in the abstract.

*The introduction/background - It is clearly known from the introduction about the general topic. But, paragraphs are missed about the problem under the study. So the authors did not justify the research question in the introduction.

  • The methodology
  • At first, no sample size calculation was identified.
  • Although the selection of subjects was made randomly, no data about concealment is clear.

  • The data and results

  • A box plot figure should be presented for survival and sbp recurrence.

  • The discussion and conclusions The repetition of the results and many introductory paragraphs (remove 1st paragraph in the discussion).

  • The conclusion answered the aim.
  • There was a need for more references in the discussion.
  • The study has many limitations not addressed.

  • The references

  • References were cited correctly, but most of them are not recent. The authors missed some key studies.
