Overall statement or summary of the article and its findings in your own words Essential oils of aromatic plants of the Asir region of southwestern Saudi Arabia was tested for its antimicrobial efficacy against pathogenic bacterial isolates. The antimicrobial activity was observed by inhibition zones with the disk diffusion method, the MIC values were determined by the microdilution broth assay and compared with standard antibiotics. The EO, compounds were identified from GC-MS analysis. EOs belongs to the Lamiaceae family. The EOs of Mentha cervina, Ocimum basilicum, and Origanum vulgare have belonged to Lamiaceae showed identical and with higher antimicrobial potentials. It is a good article.

Abstract, title and references It is clear with 250 words. This study found to be clear. The title is also relevant to the study. Relevant-references

Introduction/Background It is clear about background information -General to specific Research question correctly stated- into two statements (Hypotheses). research question justified ( Drug resistance, Cause of bacterial resistance to antibiotics recommended methods to deal with drug-resistant bacteria is the usage of essential of aromatic and/or medicinal plants, properties of essential oils and medicinal plants)

Methods Sample selection is clear (different plant species, and selection of a variety of microbes(Gram-positive and Gram-negative)) Variables of well-defined and measures appropriately (Essential oils, antibiotics, inoculum concentration) The study methods are valid and with reliability (disk diffusion, MIC, MBC with duplication of the test). Yes, there is enough detail in order for the replication of the study.

Results Tables and columns are relevant and clear. Appropriate units, rounding., and # of decimals were used. It is covered both positive and negative data presented in the results writing section as follows. (EOs of Mentha cervina, Ocimum basilicum, and Origanum vulgare was found to have the highest activities.) ( the EOs Salvia Officinalis, Ruta graveolens and Scirpoides holoschoenus showed moderate antimicrobial activity). The table title was long. It would be shorter.

Discussion and Conclusions Research findings divided into two sections that they mentioned on the aim. The results discussed from multiple angles and placed into context without being overinterpreted There is a possibility of repeating the research.

Overall Yes, the study design appropriate to answer the aim. Using relevant and importance of the studies from others. It looks excellent.

Overall strengths of the article and what impact it might have in your field The flow of sections is orderly achieved. Explore the study of native medicinal species that should be counted for the research studies.

Specific comments on the weaknesses of the article and what could be done to improve it

Major points in the article which need clarification, refinement, reanalysis, rewrites, and/or additional information and suggestions for what could be done to improve the article. No comment

Minor points like figures/tables not being mentioned in the text, a missing reference, typos, and other inconsistencies. 1. Line 91- 94- please you may insert in the discussion. 2. Tables 2,3, and 5. Rephase the Title heading, footnotes. Inside table content is not clear. 3. Line 153 please, rephrase the sentence. 4. There are minor corrections for ml (mL) and started with a capital letter for Gram-positive and Gram-negative. 5. Plant species ( e.g. Mentha cervina as M. cervina, and microorganisms (Escherichia coli as E. coli). 6. Line 148- EOs of most active plants (please rephrase). What does it mean about active plants? 7. Please rephrase the essential oil list as started with a capital letter at the beginning, the rest of them you may continue with lower cases. 8. Line 148 and 164 do not match. 9. Line 164 and 165- It is obvious from the data that thirty-six compounds accounting for 99.99% of the extracted EO were identified (rephrase the sentence). 10. Rephrase the statement of the finding at the beginning of the discussion section. 11. Line 232- Little correction of capitals of MIC and MBC.
