This article emphasizes the importance of using Ultrasound to assess the position of Internal Jugular vein with respect to Common carotid artery for IV cannulation(which is cost effective. Medical students can be easily trained in this procedure of using Ultrasound to assess IJV position. The variability in positions is highly appreciable in the study base. USG used to evaluate puncture also minimizes the failure rates as well as infections like pneumothorax, hydrothorax etc.
