Findings

Overall statement or summary

In this article the authors have addressed adverse oral health outcomes in Brazilian adolescents with robust methodology. Just some details could be improved, as outlined in my comments below.

Strengths

Aim is relevant and clear.

Weaknesses

In the abstract an expansion of the methods could be added.

Minor points

  1. In the abstract is missing what was done, for example, design, variables and statistical analysis.
  2. In the abstract there is phrase “The results suggest priorities for planning and monitoring as a function of oral health requirements”. What result support this suggest?
  3. In the background I missed what is known about socioeconomic inequalities and dental needs.
  4. On page 4, paragraph 2 in the results, the first phrase is “The correlations among variables were statistically significant based on Bartlett’s test (p < 0.001), and the MSA value was 0.7”. In the same paragraph, the thirt phrase is “The correlation matrix was shown by Bartlett’s test of sphericity to be statistically significant (p < 0.001), and the MAS value was 0.7”. Maybe you can remove one of this phrase.
  5. Tables 2 and 3 presented components 1 and 2 in this order (I suggest specifying them in the header as done in table 4). However, in table 4 it is in the reverse order, that is, 2 and 1. I suggest keeping the same order in all tables.
