Thank you for the opportunity to review this very interesting article on an important topic.

Abstract
The abstract is informative and concisely written.

Introduction/ Background
I enjoyed reading the information about the NHS and the impact of the early days of the pandemic on the UK community.

Method
This section is substantial and detailed.
I was interested to read that you had used both thematic and content analysis, an approach I had not previously encountered.

Results/ Findings
Inserting participant quotes to illustrate the point was effective and interesting.
The section entitled "Overview: tone of responses" highlighted the strength of feelings that respondents expressed.

Discussion
The discussion is authoritatively written and makes thought-provoking points.
Page 15, lines 7-15 needs a reference.

Limitations
Page 17, lines 8-12 reports that there is doubt about the accuracy of the coding. I may have misunderstood what was meant, but this is an important limitation which should be addressed. If this is not the case, the sentence needs to be reworded to clarify.

Conclusion
Powerfully written.
