• There are several studies in literature reporting the anti-cancer effects of the two compounds, the only new addition in this work is the effect of cisplatin in combination with the two drugs. • The authors show a decrease in body weights after treatment with the two drugs. What is the reason for decrease in comparison to untreated where there is an increase in body weight? • Most of the anti-tumor drugs are known to cause regression in tumors by an apoptotic mechanism. Only gene expression of Bax, Bcl-2 and caspase-3 are shown which is an expected outcome. The authors should dwell more into the mechanism and also demonstrate the effect on protein expression of these markers. Caspase-3 enzyme activity is also missing. • The data on the anti-oxidant parameters is not very convincing. In all the parameters tested there appears to be a marginal difference after treatment with the two compounds or in combination with cisplatin. Probably the role of the Nrf2 transcription factor and its downstream enzymes may give more insight.
