Authors

Lubna Khalil, Brunhielda Kholofelo Semono-Eke

Thanks for the researchers. They tackled an important topic in their field. Their work was aimed at exploring the experiences of EFL teachers on methods of teaching Saudi EFL learners general English and English for special purposes. The study was composed of (63) teachers of English language. Quantitative data were collected and the findings revealed that, along with other teaching approaches, 73 per cent of English teachers tend to use communicative language teaching.

Comments on abstract, title, references

The authors made a good job regarding the abstract and references. The abstract contains the most important points of the article. References cited in appropriate way either inside the article or in the final list. Regarding the title of the study, some clarifications related to the place of the study need to be considered.

Comments on introduction/background

The introduction provides general information about the methods of teaching English language. The research objectives are clearly outlined but some justifications are still required for such a study to be undertaken. Such rationales include issues related to teacher success in teaching English in Saudi Arabia, the learning environment and subject matter. The gap in the previous related studies needs to be mentioned. Some subtitles must be included in the literature review, such as: — The objectives of teaching English in Saudi Arabia. — The importance of teaching English In Saudi Arabia. — Some variables affect using English language teaching methods in Saudi Arabia.

Comments on methodology

The instrument of this study is valid but there is nothing mentioned regarding its reliability. More clarity regarding the process used in the selection of study subjects is also needed. There is nothing mentioned in the methodology section about the sample size. There is minimal information provided about the participants and no mention is made of their gender here. Therefore, further information should be included in the section on methodology such as: -- The instrument' s reliability and the value -- The sampling method -- The sample size -- More description, including gender, of participants

Comments on data, results and discussion

The authors used the tables and charts to present the results of the study with statistical details, but a detailed discussion is required on these findings. Although there are some statistical details about the sample here, e.g. gender, qualification, teaching experience, etc., I recommend that these information should be included in the section on methodology. More clarification for the results is also required in the light of the nature of English teaching at the university level in Saudi Arabia and the theories of English language teaching. It is important to include here similarities and differences between the results of this study and the results of the previous related studies.

Comments on conclusion

Having regard to the objectives of this study and its findings, more details must be included in the section of conclusion, such as: -- Findings related to the GE and ESP traditional teaching methods. -- Findings on efficient methods of teaching English language. -- Findings concerning suggested suitable methods of English language Also, study limitations have to be mentioned here, e.g. -- Restrictions on research methodology -- Restrictions on the sample size used in the study

Comments on structure

This research aimed to examine the perspectives of EFL teachers on methods of teaching general English (GE) and English for Special Purposes (ESP) and the sample was (63) English language teachers. Quantitative data were collected and the results showed that 73 per cent of English teachers prefer to use communicative language teaching along with other teaching approaches. Certain points may be added to the study structure: -- Adding research position to the title e.g. Appropriate Teaching Methods for General English and English for Specific Purposes from Teachers' Perspectives in Saudi Arabia -- Adding a sub-section called "Research Questions" -- Adding suggestions for further studies
