Reviewers from National Dairy Research Institute
Dr. Sandeep Kumar Rajput is an Assistant Professor in Animal Science Department at Michigan State university and have 10 years of research experience working in both academics and industries combined. He has a Ph.D in Biochemistry from Banaras Hindu University and MS in Biotechnology. His research is focuses on molecular mechanisms involved in oocyte and embryo developmental competence in cattle.
Dr. Anil Kumar Puniya, presently on deputation as Dean, Dairy Science & Technology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana & Principal Scientist, Dairy Microbiology of ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal has contributed immensely in the areas of dairy, food, industrial, environmental and rumen microbiology. He received his master degree in ‘Microbiology’ in 1988 from Gurukul Kangri University, Hardwar and doctorate from ICAR-NDRI, Karnal in 1994 (part of PhD was completed at Institut fur Bodenbiologie, Federal Agricultural Research Institute, Braunschweig, Germany as ‘DAAD Fellow’). He has developed expertise in the field of probiotics for the control of lifestyle related diseases, and ‘anaerobic rumen microbes’ as ‘direct-fed microbials’ for enhanced animal productivity and proved his worth by inventing two novel genera of rumen fungi. Dr. Puniya is a recipient of ‘Young Scientist Award’ (1996) of Association of Microbiologist of India; ‘Kautilya Gold Medal’ (1998-99) of Nature Conservators; ‘Best Young Scientist Award’ (2004) of Eureka Forbes; K.K. Iya Award, 2006; ‘Honorable Mention’, 2010 of ‘American Society for Microbiology’; and ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ of ‘Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS)’, 2012, 2013 & 2014, USA. He has also received a number of ‘Best Poster and Best Paper’ awards at different fora. Dr. Puniya underwent ‘Training Programme for Scientists & Technologists (2007) of DST and other specialized trainings in microbial and molecular biology at IARI and IMTECH besides, ‘E-course Development’ programme at NAARM, Hyderabad. Dr. Puniya was awarded ‘DSE Grant’ to attend ‘International Conference of Tropical Veterinary Medicine’, 1995 in Germany, and DST & CSIR funding to present a paper at ‘BioMicroWorld 2007’, Spain. He also chaired the sessions of ‘Food Microbiology’ during ‘BioMicroWorld 2009’, Portugal; and ‘Rumen Microbiology’ during ‘ANINUE-2012’, Thailand. Besides, he also visited Aberystwyth University, UK, twice under ‘Exchange of Scientists Programme’ of INSA with Royal Society, London in 2007, and again in 2013 as ‘DBT-CREST’ awardee. He also visited Taiwan in 2010 during exposure visit of Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. He was a member of ‘International Scientific Advisory Board’ of Formatex Research Centre, Spain in 2011; 2013; 2015 and ‘Advisory Committee’ member of International conference on Biotechnology and Bioengineering, ICBB-2014, Dubai, UAE. Dr. Puniya was ‘Co-Organizing Secretary’ of ‘45th Conference of Association of Microbiologist of India’ (2004) and organized ‘National Environment Awareness Campaign’ of ‘Ministry of Environment & Forests’ at ICAR-NDRI (2007). He is editorial board member, editor and referee of several reputed journals worldwide. He is also a life member of a number of renowned scientific bodies i.e. AMI, ANA, ANSI, BRSI, DTSI, IDA, ISCA, PAI, SBC (India) and is a fellow of Animal Nutrition Society of India and National Academy of Dairy Society of India. The contribution of Dr. Puniya to scientific community is evident by his publication record. He has published over 137 research papers/ reviews/ book chapters of high impact, written five lab manuals and edited two international books (i.e. Fermented Milk and Dairy Products by CRC Press Taylor and Francis Group; and Rumen Microbiology: From Evolution to Revolution by Springer India). He has also acted as chairman, key-note/ invited speaker during different scientific events, nationally and internationally. He has been involved in a number of external funded and institutional projects as ‘PI/ Co-PI’ and supervised a number of master and doctoral scholars. He remained ‘Paper Coordinator’ of ‘Food Microbiology’ for ‘E-contents’ for ‘PG Subjects’ (i.e. E-PG Pathshala) of University Grants Commission in frame of ‘National Mission on Education’. Additionally, he has also developed ‘E-course’ of ‘Introductory Dairy Microbiology’ for B.Tech (DT) under ‘NAIP’ of ‘ICAR’.
