Publons is happy to announce that we’ve completed an investment round. The round was led by SAGE Publishing along with follow on investment from our existing investors.
This round follows a significant period of growth for us. Over the last year we’ve grown to the point where approximately 1% of the peer reviews that were performed in 2015 were added to Publons. There are now more than a quarter of a million reviews on the platform from more than 10,000 different journals, and we have formal integrations with more than 100 journals.
The investment gives us the resources to continue to grow and to focus on making Publons better. We’ll be making some key hires (more on this below) with a focus on improving the product, integrating with more journals, and building a sustainable business. All of this in service to our mission to speed up science by harnessing the power of peer review.
I want to emphasise that Publons remains completely independent and publisher-neutral. SAGE has no operational involvement in our business, and the investment is structured to allow other parties to participate in future rounds.
As part of the investment, David McCune, non-Executive director of SAGE, is joining our board. As Publons has grown David and I have spent many hours discussing our visions for the future of academic publishing. I know we share many of the same goals -- both on our vision and on our desire for Publons to be a publisher-neutral business that provides great value to the world of research -- and I look forward to applying his knowledge further.
-- Andrew Preston, CEO
