We're half-way through 2017 and what a year it's been already! Here's a few of the highlights so far.
Publons is a finalist for the 2017 ALPSP Award for innovation in publishing
The ALPSP awards are open to any new development, product, service, launch or project which is both innovative and of significant value to scholarly communication. The winners must demonstrate excellence in terms of originality and innovation, significance and value to the community, utility and long-term viability.
We're thrilled to be shortlisted alongside the other incredible finalists.
Together, we're revolutionizing peer review. The rapidly growing Publons community is showing a commitment to better, faster peer review for the good of science and research.
We keep collaborating with publishers and institutions to solve critical problems
With your help we're creating a mass movement focused on addressing critical issues facing research. In order to do that, as well as provide a seamless service to researchers on Publons, we partner with publishers and institutions to train and recognize peer reviewers.
As of June 2017 we've now partnered with 26 Publishers -- including 6 of the top 7 academic publishers (by number of manuscripts published annually -- helping them recognize their reviewers and better manage their peer review process.
In the last 6 months alone, we've announced partnerships or pilots with:
- American College of Chest Physicians
- ASTM International
- British Editorial Society of Bone and Joint Surgery
- Clarivate Analytics/(Prous Science)
- European Respiratory Society
- Future Science Group
- IOP Publishing
- Mark Allen Healthcare Ltd
- Oxford University Press
- Pensoft Publishers
- Royal College of Surgeons England
- Sage Publishing
- Springer Nature
- Taylor & Francis
We've also partnered with Victoria University of Wellington, The University of Queensland, University of Glasgow and Curtin University. Together we will help their early-career researchers learn to review through the Publons Academy. We will also ensure all reviewing faculty can better demonstrate their esteem with evidence of previously hidden reviewing and editorial contributions to research.
We've joined Clarivate Analytics to supercharge our efforts tackling research's biggest problems.
We believe that peer review will be at the heart of solutions to critical problems facing research, including:
- fraud and methodological flaws in research;
- inefficiencies slowing down scholarly communication; and
- challenges demonstrating research impact and influence.
Peer review is the last, great, closed part of the research lifecycle. Data on peer review needs to become a core component of the research record. Bringing transparency, recognition, and training to peer review will result in better reviewers and a faster, more trusted research process.
This goal is at the forefront of everything we do - and everything we’ve done so far this year. In January we released our full guide to evaluating good publishers from the predatory. In May we launched the Publons Academy to train early career researchers in peer review. And in June we developed a new reviewer dashboard to help you better track and get recognition for your reviews.
And now, as part of Clarivate Analytics, we're now ramping up our efforts to rapidly provide a greater suite of tools and services to researchers, publishers, institutions and funders that will deliver more trustworthy research to the world faster.
Thanks for being part of our journey so far and here's to a great second half of 2017.
