Robert has managed research projects in science, education and public policy. His affinity is for "everything to do with science". He is active in business research, particularly the development of innovative business research methodologies. Recent projects are about the interface between China and the West. He supports the Philosophy of Education Society of Australasia, the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management, the Philosophy of Management, the New Zealand Association of Science Educators and the Royal Society of New Zealand.
Robert's theoretical work mainly relates to Kant, Heidegger and Heelan, ontology, phenomenology, concepts of truth, the hermeneutic philosophy of science and the foundations of business research methods. Some of his research is about curriculum theory and curriculum design, science and e-learning.
