Muhammad Arif Malik


Received the M.Sc. and M. Phil. degrees in chemistry and organic chemistry from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan, in 1986 and 1988, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, in 1999. Has been with Applied Chemistry Laboratories, PINSTECH, Nilore, Islamabad, Pakistan from 1988 to 2009. At Applied Chemistry Laboratories was involved in research and development of porous polymers and ion-exchangers. Since 2009 joined Frank Reidy Research Center for Biolectrics, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA. Currently focused on environmental applications of nonthermal plasmas including air purification, water purification and fuel reforming.

Reviewed research proposals for "American Chemical Society –Petroleum Research Fund", "ACTS of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO)", and is on the panel of reviewers for research proposals for "Kazakhstan, National Center of Science and Technology Evaluation". Has published more than seventy reviews/research articles in peer reviewed journals:

Received merit certificates in 1986 and 1988 for securing 1st position in MSc and M.Phill, PhD scholarship in 1996 from Ministry of Science and Technology of Pakistan, Postdoctoral scholarship in 2003 from Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Frank Reidy Fellowship in 2009 for studying environmental applications of nonthermal plasmas, and the Abdus Salam Prize in Chemistry in 2002 for contributions to nonequilibrium plasma chemistry and porous ion-exchange resins.

Was a Member of Editorial Board of “American Journal of Applied Sciences,” in year 2004-2005. Currently is an Editor of Chemistry International:
