Sharif A. Mukul

I am an Assistant Professor of Environmental Management at Independent University, Bangladesh. I am also affiliated as a senior research fellow at the University of the Sunshine Coast (Australia) and founding director of the Centre for Research on Land-use Sustainability, an online global platform aiming at research, consultancy, and decision-making on land-use related issues in the tropics. My previous study and research background include coupled human and natural system dynamics with particular emphasis on sustainable use, management, and conservation of biodiversity and forests. Currently, my concentration is more on pure and applied research connected to forestry and/or other human land-use practices. In particular, I am enthusiastic to know the potential role of forests and/or other less modified natural landscapes as an ecological niche, their contribution to ecosystem functioning, and the influence of various human activities on their structure and performance.
