I am an aquatic ecologist with particular interest in the behaviour and growth of fishes and aquatic insects in relation to their performance in both nature and artificial environments.

Specific topics of my own research: Compensatory growth in wild brown trout. Environmental enrichment in salmonid aquaculture. Environment-dependent brain growth. The pace-of-life syndrome in brown trout. Effects of different trial designs on behavioural expression. Effects of pearl mussel glochidia on trout behaviour. Environmental effects on different behavioural types. Effects of different behavioural types on food web dynamics. Effects of environmental factors on food web dynamics.
