Shantanu Chowdhury is currently a scientist at the CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology in Delhi. His research interests include functional biology of the DNA secondary structure called G-Quadruplex or G4 DNA motif and how these structures can impact our understanding of cancer biology at a genome wide level. Following his PhD in chemistry from the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad, India in 1998, he trained as a molecular biologist in the Biochemistry Department at the University of Lincoln, Nebraska and a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology, Marburg, Germany. In 2002 he moved to his current position where he established his own laboratory. In 2012 he was awarded India’s most prestigious science prize the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in Biological Sciences. He is member of the Editorial Board of Journal of Biological Chemistry and Human Genomics journals.
