I'm professor of data structures and software dependability at the Brandenburg Technical University (BTU) in Cottbus, Germany (since 1994), and Visiting Professor within the College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences, Brunel University London (since 2011).
I've spent my sabbaticals at Boston University, Metropolitan College (1999-2000), University of Costa Rica/San José (2003), INRIA Rocquencourt/France (2007), and Brunel University London (2011, 2015). Further (at least 1-month) research stays include ICSI in Berkeley/California, Universidad de Zaragoza/Spain, Laboratoire Spécification et Vérification (LSV/ENS), Cachan (Paris)/France, and Ca' Foscari University Venezia/Italy.
I have a long history of expertise in Petri nets, shifting my application focus from technical to natural systems in the late nineties. Over the last 20 years my group at Cottbus has developed a sophisticated toolkit for BioModel Engineering, which has been used in numerous case studies. I have co-authored about 100 peer reviewed articles and 10 book chapters. My academic service includes 15 editorships of conference proceedings and special focus issues. I'm reviewing for journals and conferences of my field of expertise on a regular basis.
