Rosario Lo Franco

Bio

I have a degree in physics with honors from the University of Palermo, where I then obtained my PhD in Theoretical Physics with the thesis: "Quantum field state engineering and entanglement: from foundations of quantum mechanics to applications". During the PhD I was visiting fellow at the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh (UK). I was then awarded post-doc scholarships and grants at Italian and foreign universities. I was recently awarded two Associate Professor qualifications for Italian University in the classes "02/B2 - Theoretical Physics of Matter" and "02/A2 - Theoretical Physics of Fundamental Interactions".

I collaborate with numerous national and international research groups, both theoretical and experimental. I have been invited visiting scientist at national and foreign institutes and universities (e.g., CBPF, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Universidade Federal do ABC, São Paulo, Brazil; Huazhong Normal University, Wuhan, China; Imperial College, University College London, Nottingham University, Heriot-Watt University, UK) where I have presented seminars. I have given talks and invited talks to conferences and international schools. I have participated in national and international projects on the study of open quantum systems.

I have been tutor of Physics for undergraduate students of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Palermo. I have been teaching General Physics, Rational Mechanics, Statistics, Physics applied to Biology at the University of Palermo.

My research, aiming at both foundations of quantum mechanics and applications, has been initially dedicated to quantum state engineering in cavity quantum electrodynamics. I have been then studying dynamics and characterization of correlations in composite quantum systems for quantum information processing, with main contributions in the case of non-Markovian evolution. Currently, an important part of my research line is focused on the characterization of entanglement and correlations in systems of indistinguishable particles.
