Sebastian Gehmert

Bio

My research focuses on stem cells extracted from body fat (adipose tissue derived stem cells; ASCs) which are ethically uncritical. There is no need to propagate adipose tissue derived stem cells in cell culture since a reasonable number of these cells can be harvested from a little amount of fat. Using cutting edge technology of molecular biology I investigate the clinical use of ASCs for various diseases. I was appointed as post-doctoral research fellow in the Department of Molecular Pathology at MD Anderson Cancer Center Houston (USA), and gained expertise of various molecular biological methods due to studies and research stays from 2002-2013 at The University of Magdeburg (Germany), Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (Peru), The University of Texas, Houston (USA) and The University of Regensburg (Germany). I am currently a resident at the Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery at The University Hospital of Basel, Switzerland.
