Juan Antonio Balbuena

I am Associate Professor of Zoology at the University of Valencia, Spain. My research concerns the evolutionary history and ecology of marine parasites. I am also interested in the taxonomy and phylogeny of these parasites. Currently I am engaged in applying geometric morphometrics to study the drivers of phenotypic variation in the attachment organs of monogeneans. Cophylogeny also represent a large portion of my current efforts. I have contributed to develop PACo, a method for cophylogenetic analysis based on Procrustes fitting of the parasite phylogeny onto the host phylogeny, which can be applied to a wide variety of settings.
