I am an associate professor in Department of Sociology, Wuhan University, who obtained Ph.D. in Applied Social Sciences at City University of Hong Kong. I am engaging in research and practice of positive qualities, positive education, mental health, wellbeing, intervention program development and evaluation, and social policy. I specialize in applying indigenous modification of basic theories and principles in Western countries into daily lives of individuals and organizations. Then derived the indigenous theory with Chinese cultural characteristics, which are more suitable to thinking and behavior paradigms of Chinese. Through individual- or community-based intervention program, the mental, well-being, and positive development are achieved.
In the past years, based on the deconstruction and construction of the elements of traditional Chinese culture, as well as the Values in Action Classification, I explored the structure and composition of Character Strengths among Chinese populations through both qualitative and quantitative studies. The Three-Dimension Strengths Model and the corresponding inventories are developed, including Chinese Virtues Questionnaire and Brief Strengths Scale. Related researches were published in SCI & SSCI journals (Social Work, Social Sciences, and Clinical Psychological disciplines) and obtained international recognition. I was invited to give oral presentation at Asia-Pacific Conference on Applied Positive Psychology and the 28th International Congress of Applied Psychology in 2014, as well as invited to be the Members of the Practice Committee at the Fourth World Congress on Positive Psychology in 2015. In addition, I am the peer reviewer of many SCI, SSCI, and CSSCI journals, such as Assessment, Quality of Life Research, Psychiatry Research, Psychological Assessment, and Journal of Happiness Studies. My Ph.D. thesis on this topic was supported by the PhD Research Expenses Grant and Research Activity Fund of City University of Hong Kong.
