Shayan works as a researcher and lecturer in nutritional sciences with the overall research goal of understanding the molecular mechanisms of aortic vascular disease and obesity.
Currently, he is a Ph.D. student in Dr. Alan Daugherty's laboratory at the Saha Cardiovascular Research Center, University of Kentucky. His current focus is the role of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) in abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), lipid metabolism and atherosclerosis. Other research endeavors include the role of miR146a, LRP1, Calpain and microbiome in vascular pathology and lipid metabolism. Shayan is also the American Heart Association | American Stroke Association Early Career Spokesperson.
