Tiago Barros is the Product Lead at Publons in London, UK. His main focus is the development of products around peer-review. Previously, Tiago was the Product Strategy Manager at F1000.
Tiago obtained his Licenciatura degree in Biochemistry in 2004 from the University of Porto in Portugal. His passion for structural biology and protein structures lead him to complete two internships in X-ray crystallography labs in Uppsala, Sweden and in Porto, Portugal. Following this, he obtained his PhD in 2009 from the Max Planck Institute of Biophysics in Frankfurt am Main, Germany where he worked with Werner Kühlbrandt on the structure and function of plant light-harvesting complexes. He then moved to the University of California at Berkeley, where he joined the lab of John Kuriyan, where he studied the structure of bacterial replicative DNA polymerases and protein kinases that carry out cellular signal transduction.
To stay connected to his beloved structural biology outside the lab, Tiago makes illustrations of macromolecules. His work appears in a number of leading textbooks in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, including Bruce Alberts’ Molecular Biology of the Cell.
