Human behavior is a main cause of contemporary environmental issues but also represents the means by which solutions to those issues will more readily succeed. I explore human behavior—its context, antecedents, constraints, and affordances—and behavior change strategies in the context of the environment, natural resources, and conservation. I use theories from social psychology and other social and behavioral sciences in conjunction with survey research, experimental design, geographic information systems, and latent variable modeling methods. My work examines individual and group behavior and processes, with a focus on norms, institutions, and values. I situate my work within the diverse, environmentally-oriented social fields of environmental and conservation psychology and the human dimensions of natural resources.
