Daniel Ocampo Daza


My research involves using public genome data and bioinformatics tools to investigate the evolution of vertebrate neurobiological and endocrine gene families. I have studied the evolution of pituitary hormone systems, voltage-gated ion channels and visual systems; describing several new components of growth hormone and prolactin systems, oxytocin and vasopressin receptors as well as somatostatin receptors, and how the components of these gene families arose in vertebrate evolution. I focused on the effects of whole genome duplications and chromosome rearrangements by combining chromosomal analyses with molecular phylogenetics.
