His research and publication have received interest and attention around the globe, with total citation of 1440 (SCOPUS database, May 2017), which is relatively high at his current age. Besides, two of his published papers in Biotechnology Advances (Elsevier) have been listed as the top-cited papers in the journal and emerged as the top-20 most cited papers in Universiti Sains Malaysia since the establishment of the university. He is currently served as an editorial board member of the Journal of Advanced Chemical Engineering (Omics International) and technical members for several international conferences, such as International Conference on Bioenvironment, Biodiversity and Renewable Energies (2012 till present), 1st Annual International Conference on Biodiversity 2015, International Conference on Process Engineering & Advanced Materials 2016 (ICPEAM2016) and 29th Symposium of Malaysian Chemical Engineers (SOMChe2016). In addition, he also served as an active reviewers for several renowned high-impact factor journals, such as Energy Conversion and Management (Elsevier), RSC Advances (Royal Society of Chemistry), Bioresource Technology (Elsevier), Fuel (Elsevier), Biotechnology Advances, (Elsevier), Applied Energy (Elsevier), Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, (American Chemical Society (ACS)) and others. Due to his immense contributions in reviewing manuscripts and contribution to the scientific community, he was awarded as an Outstanding Reviewer by Elsevier in 2014.

Lam received his PhD in Chemical Engineering (2014) and MSc. in Chemical Engineering (2010) from Universiti Sains Malaysia under the supervision of Professor Dr. Lee Keat Teong. He received his first-degree in BEng (Hons) Chemical Engineering from the same university in 2008. He was the recipient of the USM Vice-Chancellor Award during his PhD study, a prestigious scholarship to PhD candidate who conducts impactful research in the university. Besides, he was also a recipient of USM-Fellowship Award during his MSc. study and invited as a visiting scholar to attend International Training and Research Program for Advanced Drinking Water Technologies and Advanced Renewable Energy Technologies at Taiwan in 2009. He has taught several courses in both chemical and environmental engineering, including wastewater engineering, microbiology for environmental engineer, mass & energy balance, and transport phenomena. He also had delivered several short courses to the academic and industrial, such as “Biomass to Fuels & Chemicals”, “Reaction Engineering and LCA for Biomass Conversion” and “Academic Paper Writing in the field of Chemical Engineering, Biomass and Biofuel”.
