Ralf Braun

I am working on proteins that are believed to play causative roles in killing cells in human neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. My projects deal with the elucidation of evolutionary conserved molecular cell death pathways upon expression of neurotoxic proteins. I am focused on the role of mitochondria, the ubiquitin-proteasome system, and autophagy in these processes. For these studies, I am using yeast as a model for programmed cell death.
