Vasco D. B. Bonifácio


Dr. Bonifacio was born in Luanda, Angola. He graduated in Chemical Engineering (ISEL/IPL) and Applied Chemistry - Organic Chemistry major (FCT/UNL). After a PhD in Chemistry (Organic Chemistry) he made a post-doc in Molecular Electronics in Germany. After, he was Assistant Researcher of the MIT Portugal Programe and invited Assistant Professor at FCT/UNL. He was a visiting researcher at MIT, USA (2012) and Bordeaux University, France (2016). In parallel to his research activity, he is also enrolled in the development of teaching tools for blind and visually impaired students. Dr. Bonifacio discovered polyurea (PURE-type) dendrimers and is the author of the QR-coded audio version of the Periodic Table of the Elements. Current research focus in three main areas: Molecular Electronics (sensors, luminescent probes, green photovoltaics), Nanomedicine (polymer therapeutics, drug and gene delivery) and Green Chemistry (polymerization in supercritical CO2, sonochemistry, mechanochemistry, aqueous and solvent-free chemistry).
