Mauro De Marchis


Mauro De Marchis is Associate Professor at the University of Enna "Kore", faculty of Engineering and Architecture, in the SSD ICAR/01: Hydraulic Engineering. (since may 2010).

Mauro De Marchis graduated in “Engineering for Environmental and Territory" in 2003, at the University of Napoli with a dissertation in Environmental Engineering with a score 110/110 with praise. He got the PhD in "Environmental Engineering " (XIX cycle) at the University of Palermo (Italy). He got the PhD in Engineering of Civil Network and Territorial System XIX Cycle with the dissertation of the thesis “Numerical study on the effects of wall roughness on the characteristics of turbulent flow fields". He is member of Italian Professional Engineer register since 2003 and Italian Group of Hydraulic Engineering since 2004. As consultant he has carried out several hydraulic design, environmental hydraulic analysis and studies, management of hydraulic infrastructure. Mauro De Marchis is responsible of the Environmental Hydraulic Laboratory at the University of Enna KORE. At the present he is teacher of Hydraulic Engineering at the course of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He is scientific responsible of a project related to the leakages in water distribution networks. He is author of several papers on international and national reviews on issues related to hydraulic engineering, with regard to management and design of water distribution network, environmental hydraulic and computational fluid dynamic in turbulent flow fields.

His research activities regards advanced in water distribution network. In particular, his research activities concerns the experimental and numerical analysis devoted to the control and detection of the leaks. Mauro De Marchis is an expert research and engineer in Computational Fluid Dynamic of turbulent flow as well as environmental and industrial fluid mechanics. He is author of several national and international papers: 22 publications (ISI), 1 chapter in book, many proceeding (and other poster and/or oral communications in National and International conferences).

Mauro De Marchis has participate (as Principal Researcher) in different National and European Project having as main topics the urban water and the environmental fluid mechanics. In his recent research activity Mauro De Marchis carried out numerical experiments on Lagrangian dispersion of contaminated marine sediments.

Mauro De Marchis is one of the main contributors in the development of the software open source PANORMUS (PArallel Numerical Open souRce Model for Unsteady flow Simulations) a finite-volume numerical tool aimed at resolving the 3D momentum equations for incompressible fluids using curvilinear non-orthogonal grids. Several turbulence problem, environmental and industrial, can be resolved and free-surface flows can be analysed, using moving grids able to adapt to the changes in the water level. It can be used as well for air and water flows. The model allows to resolve transport equations for tracers, salinity and temperature as well. The software can be downloaded at the site He is the responsible of the cooperation between the Università degli Studi di Enna “Kore” AND THE royal institute of technology (sw. Kungliga tekniska högskolan), aimed at fostering mutual relations and promoting scientific cooperation between researchers of Università degli Studi di Enna “Kore” and researchers of KTH. The activities under this MoU shall cover the specific fields of: Turbulent Flow fields; Multiphase flows; Environmental Fluid Mechanics; Computational Aircraft systems and subsystems analysis particle swarm optimization of control systems; piezoelectric and magneto-electro-elastic composites modelling
